For Trinay, a full-time employee and part-time student, every day was a delicate balancing act. With limited access to transportation, she often relied on coworkers for rides to her early morning shifts—and when no one was available, she walked. The walk took two hours, starting at 4 a.m., and though she never complained, it was far from safe or sustainable.
“I’ve thought about using Ubers, but it’s simply not in my budget,” Trinay shared. “Walking was sometimes the only option I had.”
In March and April 2025, Trinay found a lifeline in the Ride United Network (RUN). She used 25 rides, covering nearly 99 miles, and saved over $435 in transportation costs. More importantly, RUN helped ease the strain of an exhausting routine, giving her reliable access to work, groceries, and doctor’s appointments—without the worry or risk.
But Trinay’s story doesn’t end there.
With the support of United Way of Frederick County’s Pathway to Transportation program, Trinay reached a major milestone: she purchased a car of her own. Now, she no longer has to rely on others or worry about walking in the dark to make it to work. She’s also able to visit and assist her aging grandmothers more often—a major source of comfort and support for her family.
“Having a car means I can start saving money, pick up extra shifts, and prepare for my upcoming move. It’s a big step forward in so many areas of my life.”
Thanks to RUN and the Pathway to Transportation program, Trinay transformed a difficult and uncertain routine into one filled with independence, safety, and new possibilities.
At United Way of Frederick County, we’re proud to be part of Trinay’s journey. Her story is a testament to the power of reliable transportation—and the life-changing impact it can have when opportunity meets determination.
