A NEW ROAD TO INDEPENDENCE: TECOURELLA'S JOURNEY FORWARD

For Tecourella, receiving a reliable vehicle through United Way of Frederick County’s Pathway to Transportation program means more than having a way to get from place to place. It means greater independence, less stress, and the freedom to focus on her health, her children, and the future she is working hard to build.

As a single mother of two living with a chronic illness, Tecourella faces challenges that make reliable transportation especially important. Traveling to medical appointments, managing everyday errands, and keeping up with her children’s needs can be difficult without a dependable vehicle. After losing a previous vehicle and later having to return another because the payments became unaffordable, she found herself navigating daily life without the independence transportation provides.

While working toward a more permanent transportation solution, Tecourella received support through United Way of Frederick County’s Ride United Network (RUN) program. By providing transportation to work, RUN helped reduce one of the barriers she faced while working toward greater financial stability. The program saved her $239.71 in transportation costs, providing valuable relief as she continued pursuing her goals for herself and her family.

Through it all, Tecourella has remained focused on building a brighter future. She recently completed college courses as she pursues opportunities to increase her income and achieve greater financial stability for her family.

Now, with a vehicle of her own, Tecourella has a renewed opportunity to move forward.

Reliable transportation will help her get to important medical appointments, manage her family’s daily needs, and pursue employment opportunities as she continues working toward greater financial independence. Just as importantly, it will give her back a sense of freedom and reduce the stress of navigating life without dependable transportation.

When Tecourella received her new vehicle, her son was there to share in the excitement of this milestone. Having him by her side made the moment even more special as she celebrated a new chapter for herself and her family.

Through United Way of Frederick County’s Ride United Network and Pathway to Transportation programs, participants receive support in overcoming transportation barriers while working toward greater independence and stability. Together with Second Chances Garage, these programs help connect individuals with transportation solutions that can open doors to employment, health, and opportunity.

For Tecourella, this vehicle represents more than a set of keys. It represents the ability to regain her independence, continue pursuing her goals, and create new possibilities for her children.

Sometimes, a fresh start begins with something as simple and as life-changing as having a reliable way to get where you need to go.
