Frederick Health: 2022 Stuff the Bus

08/11/2022

Frederick Health, the largest health system in Frederick County and our community's only hospital, has been a partner of United Way of Frederick County for the past 10 years. They have shown incredible support in assisting with our combined mission of ensuring that every member of the community is taken care of through health, education, or financial stability.

“It ties right into Frederick Health’s mission,” said Michael McLane of Frederick Health about the hospital’s involvement in Stuff the Bus. “Being the largest private employer in the county, we always feel as though we need to be an active member of this community.”

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Frederick Health has given tremendous care to the Frederick community by providing access to tests and vaccinations and continuing to care for the patients of Frederick County every single day. They also support those who need extra assistance in healthcare by operating a care clinic to make sure that individuals who do not have access to primary care are taken care of, so they don’t fall through the gaps. They operate mobile clinics to get access into underserved communities since there is a transportation issue in Frederick County, so they make sure they can go to those individuals who need the care the most. This ties right into our Ride United program which is an initiative to help overcome transportation barriers in Frederick County.

Frederick Health is, and always has been, a huge supporter of our Stuff the Bus program. Every year United Way knows we can count on the assistance of Frederick Health in getting our collection bins out to the public and collecting school supplies for the youth of Frederick County who need them to embark on a successful school year.

“We hope that every student who goes back to school has the needed supplies to have a successful school year,” said McLane, who also serves on United Way’s Board of Directors. “So they don’t have to worry about it, their parents don’t have to worry about it, and they can focus on their academics and health.”

Frederick Health is a prime example of Frederick County’s ability to LIVE UNITED. They exemplify the philanthropic mindset so many Frederick County citizens, and businesses alike, possess. The shared belief that Frederick County is our home, and our neighbors should be cared for every day.

“We make philanthropy a large part of our mission, and it’s not just philanthropy to the health system, but philanthropy back to the community,” said Michael. “This is our home, and anything we can do to make our home a little bit better, that’s what we want to do.”
