"Caring adults in the lives of youth is the number one youth need in Frederick County."
-Frederick County Human Needs Assessment, 2011
Mentoring a young person can make the difference between graduation or dropping out. Young men and women need caring adults to help them with more than just homework. Adults can be a compass to help a young person succeed in school, choose a career path, enroll in higher education, apply for scholarships, and eventually become a caring adult for other young people.
Research proves that caring volunteers working with students of all ages have the power to help kids boost academic achievement and put young people on track for a bright future. That is why United Way is launching this historic new effort to recruit one million new volunteer readers, tutors, and mentors. We all win when young people succeed in school. That is why United Way is inviting people to LIVE UNITED as a volunteer reader, tutor or mentor. In this section, you will find volunteer resources to help you choose the opportunity that is right for you. You are not in this alone! Whether you're a volunteer reader, tutor, or mentor, we have great advice and resources from fellow volunteers and community partners.
