Local Business Volunteers Display What Matters
During United Way Day of Caring
Frederick's volunteer spirit loomed large on September 27 in conjunction with United Way of Frederick County's annual Day of Caring. Eight local companies sent employees out of their familiar work surroundings into a completely different environment.all in an effort to help a few United Way partner agencies.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of United Way of Frederick County, I extend our heartfelt thanks to those businesses that recognize the value of giving back to this great community.
Chase Card Services employees covered several agency projects for Day of Caring. Those employees could be found painting the exterior of the storage garage at the Frederick County Family YMCA and the interior of The Salvation Army's Youth Center. And in Emmitsburg, even more Chase employees were working hard painting the hallway at Emmitsburg Early Learning Center and sorting and organizing items for Seton Center's Thrift Shop. Throughout the weeks before the actual Day of Caring event, Chase employees also conducted a toy drive to benefit The Learning Tree.
Employees of Linton Shafer Warfield & Garrett, P.A. spread out to three locations to spruce up Frederick Community Action Agency's facilities by weeding, mulching and mowing the properties.
Daybreak Adult Day Center got a much-needed hand from BB&T and The Plamondon Companies employees as they worked together to beautify the courtyard with some general landscaping duties. At the same time, another group of BB&T employees were busy processing a huge mailing for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Frederick County.
Employees from M&T Bank and Murray Financial Group could be spotted throughout the day delivering Helpline materials to local medical offices on behalf of the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Maryland Chapter.
Finally, a fun time was had by all at Clustered Spires Golf Club as residents of Community Living and employees of The Frederick News-Post, First United Bank & Trust and members of the United Way of Frederick County Board of Directors all came together to spend the day on the driving range and putting green, helping the residents to hone their golf skills.
This year we were able to offer all Day of Caring participants T-shirts due to the generosity of M&T Bank.
That's what pulling together as a community is all about-seeing where the need is and doing something about it. Thank you to those businesses that sent volunteers when they could have had them working to benefit their companies instead. Thank you for recognizing the important work of these vital organizations, which continue to make this community healthy and strong.
