March 6th, 2008

FREDERICK, MARYLAND—United Way of Frederick County (UWFC) recently announced that the funds raised for its 2007-08 campaign have surpassed the $1 million mark. The confirmed amount to date is $1,303,000. However, the organization is nearing its deadline to raise the additional $497,000 that is needed to achieve maximum community impact in Frederick County, based on the campaign goal of $1.8 million.

"The official end of the campaign is April 30, so it is definitely not too late to help," said Jayne B. Bongard, UWFC campaign chair. "We are optimistic that this goal can be achieved."

As always, employers are encouraged to support the Frederick community through an employee campaign and/or corporate gifts. Individuals may give through their workplace campaign or directly to UWFC in any amount they choose. "“We encourage everyone to consider a gift to United Way of Frederick County's current campaign. It’s really not just a donation, it truly is an investment in the Frederick community," Ms. Bongard remarked. "No one in our community is completely untouched by the work of United Way, and when people get the help they need from United Way, we all benefit."

United Way of Frederick County also reports the growth of its local Alexis de Tocqueville Society, providing an opportunity for individual donors and family foundations contributing $10,000 and above to join thousands of national philanthropists making a profound impact on their neighbors in need.

The results of the 2007-08 campaign will be released at the Volunteer Recognition/ Campaign Celebration and Annual Meeting in June. Funds from this campaign will be distributed to UWFC's 23 partner agencies from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009.

A local, volunteer-managed organization, United Way of Frederick County invests in community impact by supporting programs that assist children and families, provide emergency services, offer health education and serve those with disabilities through its 23 partner agencies.
