Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop Hosts Opening Event to Benefit United Way of Frederick County
February 28th, 2007
FREDERICK, MARYLAND-On February 17, the newly established Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop located in the South Market Center along Carroll Creek, opened its doors to friends and family to attend a private pre-opening event to benefit United Way of Frederick County. The ice cream shop opened to the public on February 18.
The shop's many treats were donated; however, guests were asked to make a $1 donation for any item selected. As a new neighbor in Frederick, Ben & Jerry's initiated the partnership between the two organizations. "Ben & Jerry's has had a long-standing reputation for giving back to the community, and we truly believe in the efforts of United Way of Frederick County and its commitment to vital programs and services that make Frederick such a great place to live and work," remarked April Jensen, owner of the local Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop.
A local, volunteer-managed organization, United Way of Frederick County invests in community impact by supporting programs that assist children and families, provide emergency services, offer health education and serve those with disabilities through its 22 partner agencies.
