What's in the News?! United Way of Frederick County Campaign Breaks $1 Million Campaign Needs Boost to Meet Community Needs
January 23rd, 2007

FREDERICK, MARYLAND-United Way of Frederick County (UWFC) recently announced that the funds raised for its 2006-07 campaign have surpassed the $1 million mark. The confirmed amount to date is $1,086,000. However, the organization is nearing its deadline to raise the additional $614,000 that is needed in order to achieve maximum community impact in Frederick County, based on the campaign goal of $1.7 million.

"The official end of the campaign is April 30, so it is definitely not too late to help," said Frederick L. Ridgway, Jr., UWFC campaign chair. "We are optimistic that this goal can be achieved, and we are excited about some new initiatives currently added to this campaign," he continued.

As always, employers are encouraged to support the Frederick community through an employee campaign and/or corporate gifts. Individuals may give through their workplace campaign or directly to UWFC in any amount they choose. Additionally, UWFC has expanded its reach for the current campaign, according to Mr. Ridgway. "Every household in Frederick will receive an informative direct mail appeal just before Valentine's Day asking residents to open their hearts to their neighbors in need. We hope the community is responsive to this mailing because it could make a huge difference in the final results of our campaign."

Another vehicle recently added is a newly defined campaign dollar match from BB&T. In an effort to encourage leadership giving ($500 and above), BB&T will provide matching funds toward new leadership gifts.

United Way of Frederick County also reports the growth of its local Alexis de Tocqueville Society, providing an opportunity for individual donors and family foundations contributing $10,000 and above to join thousands of national philanthropists making a profound impact on their neighbors in need.

The results of the 2006-07 campaign will be released at the Volunteer Recognition/ Campaign Celebration and Annual Meeting in June. Funds from this campaign will be distributed to the 22 partner agencies from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008.

A local, volunteer-managed organization, United Way of Frederick County invests in community impact by supporting programs that assist children and families, provide emergency services, offer health education and serve those with disabilities through its 22 partner agencies.
